This year, Americans don’t need a visa to visit most countries in Europe, including all of the destinations featured above except Scotland. All travelers need an ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization) to visit Scotland because it is in the United Kingdom.
Other European destinations featured above are part of the Schengen area, which allows visitors to travel freely between participating countries. US citizens do not currently need a visa for the Schengen area (though watch for ETIAS requirement by late 2026), however travelers from many other countries require a Schengen visa, even if they currently live in the United States. The same visa will allow travel throughout the Schengen area.
